10.1 Principles of GUI Design

Designing a GUI is more an art than a science. There are, however, principles that can be used to guide a sound design. A user interface design that strictly follows these principles will result in a much more efficient, effective, and accurate data-entry screen. These principles include simplicity and clarity, flexibility, consistency, immediate feedback, forgiveness, and pleasant appearance. The following discussion considers each of these principles in more detail.
